Sometimes you want to add Post formatting like making words Bold, change color or add links into your Post Excerpts. Unfortunately, this is not possible will the WordPress default Post Excerpts. Unless your theme supports Excerpt Formatting & I don’t know if any does. Here I’m telling you how to add formatting to a Post Excerpt using TinyMCE Editor.
First of all, What is TinyMCE Editor
TinyMCE is a web based Javascript HTML WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Editor released as Open Source under LGPL by Moxiecode Systems AB. It has the ability to convert HTML TEXTAREA fields or other HTML elements to editor instances. TinyMCE is very easy to integrate into other Content Management Systems.
For your Information, Our WordPress uses TinyMCE Editor to write and format Posts in our Blog. TinyMCE Advanced is the WordPress Plugin to enhance the functionality and add more friendly buttons and icons to the Write-Post Page. Getting back to point
Format Post Excerpts in WordPress:
For this, we are using the TinyMCE Excerpt Plugin
TinyMCE Excerpt Plugin uses the TinyMCE Editor to format Post Excerpts. It displays the Same TinyMCE Editor Tool bar like Post Area to format excerpts the way you want.
How to use:
- Install the TinyMCE Excerpt Plugin
- Activate.>
- Go to Write Post Page, Scroll down and you should be able to see the editor displayed in the Excerpt Area.
I wish they’d just give us a check box on the excerpt panel so we can choose whether to strip formatting from the excerpts or not… until they add that to the core, this will be helpful for many, thanks for posting it!

There are some alterations I want on my excerpts but I don’t know how to do it. Reading on this post, I think I have the right tool. I will try this out.
